A Beautiful Day… and a Flat Tire

Sometimes when everything looks good, we assume nothing can go wrong.

I hadn’t been out in a while, so lunch with a few college friends felt like a gift. The sun was shining, the day was beautiful, and my car was full of gas as I headed down the highway. We laughed, ate, and caught up for a couple of hours.

Then I walked back to my car. Flat tire.

Not just low, I mean just flat. And there it was: a big construction nail stuck deep in the rubber. For a moment, I panicked. But instead of spiraling, I started making calls. My husband suggested AAA. Then I remembered I had a tire warranty also. The tow truck came, took me safely to the tire shop, and a couple of hours later, my car was fixed.

Yes, it delayed my day. But it didn’t happen while I was driving on the highway. I was safe.

And that’s when it hit me, sometimes delays are just what it is, “delays” and  protection. It’s not denial. It’s not destruction. It’s just part of life LIFE-ING.

Just like cars, we hit unexpected bumps, curves and turns . Sometimes we need a mechanic. Sometimes we need a doctor. Things happen. What matters is that we handle them, repair what needs fixing, and keep moving.

Look at the difference: my car on the tow truck… and then my car back on the road with me standing beside it.

That’s life. Things go wrong. Things get fixed. And we keep going.

John 10:10 reminds us that the thief comes to steal, kill, and destroy but Jesus came that we may have life, and have it more abundantly. Even when life throws a nail in our tire, it doesn’t mean abundance is gone. It just means there was a pause, a repair, a moment of protection.

So enjoy the good days. Cherish the moments. Even the detours have purpose and the promise of abundant life still stands.
